Panjab University was established in 1882 at Lahore. After
partition in 1947, the University had no campus of its own for
a decade. While the administrative office was located at
Solan, Himachal Pradesh, the teaching departments
functioned from Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Delhi and Amritsar.
In 1956, the University was relocated to Chandigarh. The
University was recognized by the UGC as the "University with
Potential for Excellence in Biomedical Sciences" with
facilities for Stem Cell Research and Drug Development. The
